Nope, GW won't give us anything anytime soon. We only have ourselves to rely on.

No on both accounts. They still have several armies to do for 7th and rumor has it that 8th edition is already in the planning stages. If they did do Dogs of War, expect it to be radically different from what it was.

I might be being really dense but why would Bretonnia try and invade Tilea?

I want to know why in the current state of the WH world, would Bretonnia invade Tilea. They stand nothing to gain, maybe loose a lot of manpower, and Tilean merchants would cut off all their trade with Bretonnia.
Araby invading Estalia/Tilea would make sense, it's a tradition, like Oxford/Cambridge, but Bretonnia doesn't have anything- other than the fact they used to claim some of the Tilean Land.

Since when did reasoning get used in invading lands. Usually it's a preceived Slight (US not selling fuel to Japan in 1941), ancient claim on land (Iraq invading Kuwait), Religion/Religious presicutions (Nothern Ireland/crusades/Bosnia/Iraq).

I do belive we will get a book sooner or later. most likely 8th or 9th, like Chaos Dwarfs they get a book/update about ever other ed.

I still doubt that, seeing the direction GW has taken when it comes to mixed armies. If they are ever going to make an update for the Dogs of War, it is likely to only include RoR taken in other armies.

I don't buy the GW line about mixed armies, Warriors of Chaos, one of the latest books has humans, ogres, chaos dwarfs, trolls, giants, dragon ogres plus various mutants and monsters.
I do believe the dogs of war will get a new book but won't be until 8th edition at least and will likely be a self contained army like any other. Which i'd be happy with :-D

I don't believe GW will release a Dogs of War book until the current design studio and management has retired.

I would love them to have a book, even it's a book for their army and they can't be hired by other armies, which may be the way they take the Ogre Kingdoms in their next book.

My thoughts would be. It depends on how GW do in the next few years. If they keep selling things at Goldsword prices, I doubt we'll see a re-release as more people get fed up with Games Workshop, hence profits drop, and they keep on putting off expanding the line to account for a 'new' army.
If things are starting to look up, and GW are more interested in expanding the Fantasy line, then I have no doubt that Dogs of War will be considered (For reasons I've pointed out before. We've got the fluff, we've got models for all the regiments of renown, special characters. It's just a matter of rules and GW wanting to do it).

So at this stage, I'll plonk down a big maybe. Even though Chaos Dwarves have a lot more work to be done on them if they were to be re-released, they would more than likely see a release first.

We will. I jut hope it happens before I am in the old folks home.

Tbh, we don't even need a new book or line of miniatures. Just a WD Dogs of War pdf with updated points costs and a little bit of rules clarification would do the trick.

And on the subject of Bretonnia invading Tilea - The Tournament of Ravola, Tilean Knights best the cream of Bretonnia in mock combat. Bretonnian Knights are forever forbidden by the rules of honour to invade Tilea.

A new Dogs of War book may be something radically different, like Warhammer Armies: Tilea... but the major obstacles for a new book are GW's line about not wanting to do another human army, and their apparent lack of ideas on what to do with the mercs.

I can't see why they wouldn't want another human army, they have 3 kinds of Elves and 3 of Chaos. It should be more focused on playing style then: Empire and Bretonnia are played very differently, so if they could come up with a playing style not used by any of those they should be fine. Personally, I would like to see a fast cavalry/infantry based Araby army from them, but that's not very likely to happen.

Tbh Dogs are more of a multi-cultural army. I find they play differently to Empire even if they do look shockingly similar.

Honeslty I think GW's sees Dogs of War as a threat if you will to the popularity of the Empire - GW seems to like fluff being high sellers. I think a Dogs of War army would compete too much for similiar role. Besides in recent years they have pretty much ignored Teliea (or whereever Dogs of War are campaigning in) Unfortunately the empire is one of the poorer armies at the moment.

On game design notes, I think it rather hard to flesh out what differnt aspects a true Dogs of War army would have (ie, how is it different and unique?)

Look at the schism they created to make the elves stand apart (ASF & Hatred) What would you give Dogs of War that empire can't have (aside from RoR)?

For me the great appeal of this army was to use models that don't fit in my other armies - and to get away from the power creep and power gaming that is out of hand in the newer books.

I think the best the Dogs of War can hope for is another white dwarf ariticle update, but the scape of the army would probably change completely. However random army list curtainly don't seem to be the interest of the WD staff at the present.

I think RoR in Dogs of War (Remember the Google project) are what set it apart to be honest. Some RoR units need a little bit of a tweak to make them competitive/actually useful and Dogs of War will be competitive (But not powergamed) against other armies.

(Oh and also reduce the points cost across the mundane entries) Everything else is great, I wouldn't be too fussed if they didn't put new magic items in, just reduce the cost of the common items in line with the new books.

Trouble is they seem to forget their fluff if it would hurt sales. Think the change of the amount of Steam Tanks allowed in an Empire Army.

6th Edition fluff was there were 7 Steam Tanks in the Entire Empire (the eights sunk falling through a frozen lake. So you were allowed 1 per 2000 points.
7th Edition fluff removes the 7 Steam Tanks and now you can take a tank every 1000 points.

Pikes (ASF first round of Combat fight in 4 ranks), Duellist (Skirmishers with pistol option), Halfling archers and Hot Pots and no silly Steam Tanks, Helblasters, War Altars.

Actually it's that the Dogs of War can use models from several different armies (either straight or conversion). In turn those could be used as mercenaries in your other armies.

I can't see GW doing that unless there is a major change in policy in their studio/managment.

I was referring to them making just another human army. GW doesn't seem to want mixed armies anymore (except with the Chaos gods, take Khorne and Tzeentch together by all means ), so we are pretty much screwed there. Since that would leave them with another human army (Tilea without ogres, dwarfs and the other races) that resembles the Empire too much. That's the issue the Dogs of War atm. It seems Gw is reluctant on keeping apartheid between the races, and that sucks.

I don't see a new human army on the horizon either.

Granted mortals can be argued as not being one, but isn't chaos supposed to be the embodyment of man in a powerful (selfdestructive/evil) form?

I think Dogs of War as a concept fits the third slot, but GW is strongly steering away from mixing races, as evident in their removing the Dogs of War option as listen in the new books ('08 and on I believe)

But they have mixed races in books already.

Ogre Kingdoms: Ogres, Gnoblars, Giants
Warriors of Chaos: Enhanced Humans, Ogres, Giants, Chaos Dwarfs (Hell Cannon Crew)
Chaos Dwarfs: Chaos Dwarfs, Hobgoblins, Orcs, Goblins
Orcs and Goblins: Orcs, Goblins, Trolls, Snotlings, Giant (Granted Most are Green Skinned)
Lizardmen: Skinks, Saurus, Slanns (Granted they are all cold blooded)
