My friends are planning a winter campaign for Winter 2011, and I have decided as well as probably writing a good deal of it, I might play it. I was thinking of taking advantage of the new Regimental Mascot model as a 'command' standard bearer or something and doing Kislev.
However, heres the bit where I need help;
1) How do I get my hands on some of the old minis (deffinitely Boris and Urskin) and how much do they cost?
2) Does anyone have any hints, tips or tutorials for then converting up (relatively cheaply) some 150+ Kossars, 20+ Ungols, 30+ Winged Lancers and two or three Boyars?

I know its alot to ask, but thanks in advance!

As far as the old figs, your best (only) bet is ebay - and you will need a bottomless pocket and plenty of patience!

Converting is the way to go:

These give a good idea of what can be done with a mix of Empire, High Elf and Bretonian, Marauder and Beastmen bitz plus some greenstuff.

The following thread in this forum discusses alternative manufacturers figs:

The biggest problem is probably the feathered wings for your hussars/lancers/Gryphon Legion. The only plastic option I can think of is bitz from the Dark Angels bike sprues.
Have heard some people use Eldar parts for their Winged Lancer wings..think its the Dire Avengers helm plumes or Swooping Hawks wings.
Thanks very much guys!

Just need to finish the groundwork on my Clan Pestilens now, then I can slow those guys down and start on these conversions- I'll keep you posted!

Also, it looks like im in luck, the campaign just got pushed back to 2012- An extra year for me to finish my army (in my own notoriously slow manner)

So now all I need are parts from marauders, marauder horsemen, empire pistoliers, knights and archers, maybe some beastmen, catachans, dark angels bikers, the odd historic miniature, maybe eldar and/or high elves....
...am I missing anything? Smile

EDIT: Missed units of semi-rhetoric/sarcastic list
Perhaps Eldar Soering Eagles? They bear 'wings' as well...
I would recommend using Old Glory figs, the Kislev ones are almost impossible to find nowadays, I had to pay almost $60 for just the bear!
(Thats about £58...) ...I'd have to look into it, but thanks for the heads up!

EDIT: Wheres the best place to get kislev style shields? (if it has any bear-ing (haha) on the answer, I live in Birmingham, UK)
Best other place to buy stuff like that are:
mom and pop independent game stores find sometimes you might find treasures.

Game conventions.

Bits boxes of stores.

Where do you live?
If in US Origins in Columbus OH this weekend -- lots of dealers some will defenitely have some.

Try out of the way game stores -- you will find some of the most interesting things in areas that you never thought to look.

Good luck.
