hi I found out about dogs of war recently and found out that most armies can hire them...can warriors of chaos hire them as well even though the book doesnt say so? while the dogs of war book does say any army can hire them.
Well the reason the WoC book doesn't show them is because as the new books get released they've been removing that option. The older books like Dwarfs, Wood Elves, etc... still have the option. According to the old Hire Chart for the Dogs of War, WoC can hire every basic Dogs of War unit expect Truthsayers from the Albion campaign. For Regiments of Reknown I according to the chart WoC can hire 18 of them.

but i can still hire from that book right? like i wont be forced to remove them from my list if i field them?
No.

The problem is: The new WoC- Book has no Rare-Slot for Dogs of War anymore!
Yes, you cans till hire them, as the dogs of war list itself allows it, even if the option is not in the woc book itself. GW has not outright banned dogs of war from being used, ergo, you can still use them.
I thought they were banned in the UK tourney's now though. I'm not 100% because I'm in the US obviously; but yeah... Field away, and just make sure your opponents know what's up before hand so they don't get all angsty when you bring it up.
Well one of the rumors for 8th is they're bringing back allies, which is where Dogs of War might fit in. I'm hoping that is true to a degree, as it'd be good for Dogs of War. Plus being able to have some 'foreign' contingents (ie: A Dwarf block in an Empire army) would be nice and seem a bit more interesting to me. For Warriors Chaos, it'd also allow them to have a Daemon or Beast unit or few among their numbers.
Give me back the old empire-list with Dwarfs, Ogres and Halflings and I would be happy!

Yeah... I recently bought the 4th edition empire book because I heard it had some fluff on the hotpot and was looking at all the cool stuff like, the cheap characters, halflings, and dwarves. The ogres seeem a bit over costed but the war wagon looks cool with the man catcher, and would love the monster section and swarms to come back.

+2 to that actually. I still love my Empire, and that would be even more classic. I like it.
Probably the most regular employer of Ogres would be the human nations. So it would be fluffwise and a good pusher for Empire-armies-sales!
Yep. Mercs have ever been a problem in Warhammer streching back to the 1st edition. 3rd edition did a pretty passable job for balance with them.

I wonder what they might look like in the future. I think balancing them so Wood Elves can take cannon is the biggest challenge (just an example).
No, it's not a problem...just think fluffwise....bad boys take evil mercs, good ones the shiny guys...and human are as good as bad, so they would also hire Asarnil as Beorg.
Beastmen / Wood Elf armies taking a cannon has always been one of the major issues.

It should just be Core from allies that can be taken, or at least normal comp rules (1 hero, 2 core minimum under 1000pts
That's a good idea!
