Me, I want too use em with XBows and GWs. Is this wise? If not, I ask: do YOU use them? and if so how do you use em?
Sure, why not? I usually use them with HW&S though, for survivability. I would personally save great weapons for marauders though.
GW and xbows makes them extremly expensive...to have a good hth unit you have to field them in 3 to 4 ranks, so you have only 5 shots per turn. Sad

go for 20 dwarfs with hw and shield, heavyarmour in a 5*4 block, that's the best use!
for xbows take the human core-counterpart, they do the job as god as dawi plus they are cheaper!
Dwarves? I like as HA&S - hard to kill!

If you want to shoot, take Core Xbows - cheaper and Core
I use them with everything -- HA, Shield, GW, X-Bows. I only field 10 or so of them they do run about 190 points -depending on the command that I take. But they do tend to surprise your opponents when they charge a unit and wip out GW instead of the standard HwS option. Granted they almost never use the GW but in the occasions that they do they are very usefull.
But what will they do with the GW? Against light cav they are overpowered and even with a ordinary dwarf a light cavman has problems, against 2+ save knights with lances the dwarfs will see no land, because of striking last!...so for me the "crossbow&lumberjack"-dwarfs are a waste of points...talk to a dwarf-player, he will confirm that in the dwarven throng even the original scouts (don't know the english name) are nothing, 'till you upgrade them to longbeards. and this option we don't have!
I won several battles as a Dwarf Thane, and I love them. Their main disadvantage is their lack of speed.
Their great strength is their infantry, which I think is the best in the game! I like their Quarrelers (crossbowmen) or Thunderers (gunmen), with shield and hand weapon (when charged). Many Dwarf generals like Great Weapons, but they require two hands, give you no defense, and (I think) they strike last. Their gromril armor protects them, but they are still too vulnerable, in my mind.
They are resistant to magic, and they can hold a position extremely well. You could use Dwarfs to anchor one of your flanks, but I think they would be best in your center, where their flanks are protected and the enemy has to attack them head-on.
Also, Slayers are magnificent! I would give them 2 axes and have them charge the enemy! One tactic I used with them was that, after they finished off the opponent they faced, I had them charge into the enemy's rear area! Most characters didn't want to face angry Slayers in pursuit!
If I want to hit with GWs, I'll take Norse. Frenzy with S5 GWs is pretty darn good on the charge!
I also prefer norse to dwarfs because of frenzy.

If I want crossbows I take humans. This way the crossbows can contunie to shoot while the infantry continues to fight.

Good points! Also, humans can run faster than Dwarfs--which is a big help!
BUT: T4 plus 3+/ 4+ save and perhaps GW is a thing not to forget!

And that is why Dwarves are typically fielded as simpy HA&S.
