I'm liking the name ducats less and less do with that in mind... A poll!
Would like something more "Dogs of War"-like, so I give you three examples:

For Tilea-->Italian--> Florins
For Estalia-->Spanish--> Reales
Landsknecht- Like Smile--> Schilling...my favouritWink

How is the money called in the WH- Empire?? Must be the most used money in the old world.
Back in the earliest WFRP days Gold Crowns, same in 2e WFRP.
For sentimental reason I choose Ducats. Tongue
As the Ducat was common currency across Europe from 1200 to 1850 there can only be one choice - what else would a Merc choose to be paid in?!

It was a common currency, yes. But there were others - John Hawkwood's accountants, for instance, worked in florins to the best of my knowledge.

Ducat sounds tinny. Florin's a nice woody word, much better.

Gold Crowns since its the most common currency in the Old World in fantasy.
How about Swedish Crowns, I'd vote for that! Tongue
Could I ask a potentially blonde question: What do the Ducats on this site do?
blond answer: They make you rich!

Serious: It's the system of honour of this site, so member can see how much (good) activity has another member done here. More money, more done, more respect...it's a mercenary thing Wink.
I like the idea of the Schilling! Big Grin Florins sounds pretty nice, too...
But I have to say, I don't really have a problem with gold ducats either.
by curiosity, the Spanish old currency is " Maravedís" in course from 1474 to 1854, in case it interests to you and it serves to you as aid.Wink

I like Florins (from Florence).
I shall quote the Old World Armoury:

No two city-states in Tilea have the same coins. A variety of images and symbols mark them, depending on the region and government responsible for their minting; although Tilea does abide by the Crown, Shilling, and Penny nomenclature used by the Empire. The common Gold Crown features the profile of various famous merchant princes on the front and a merchant's scale on the back, similar to what's used on the Estalian duro. Shillings may feature sailing ships or the bolt thrower, a famous Tilean invention. Pennies also var wildly. Some depict an important fortresses, shrines, government buildings, or even marketplaces. Because each city-state mints its own currency, quality varies. As a result, Tilean coinage is generally worthless in other lands. Dwarfs flat out refuse to accept Tilean currency in their own lands, so merchants from these land use Imperial Coin.
Gold Crown, the coin of a merc...
I'm thinking Gold Crown it is.
I'd be happy with either Ducats or Crowns. Ducats has a kind of 'foreign' nature to it, Crowns is more generic fantasy-esque.
Crowns goes back to WFRP however.
