I'm kinda in limbo regarding what I want to do with my Warhammer pieces. I'm thinking about going Empire but Marienburg has always been a big favorite of mine. I was thinking about the idea of running a Dogs of War force utilizing Dwarf and Empire pieces to represent the units. I'm not a big fan of Regiments of Renown anyway so I don't need to represent them. I was thinking that I would use this basic setup...
Swordsmen w/ Pistols in their shield arms = Duelists w/ Pistols
Knightly Orders = Heavy Calvary
Spearmen = Pikemen
Dwarves = ...Dwarves I guess

On top of some feedback on that idea, I was hoping for some feedback on Marienburgs military practices, color schemes, and the like. Does anybody have good links for this information?

This is the scheme GW uses anyway, just try googling around and see if you can find some good inspiration.
There is the "Heraldry of the Empire" book or whatever it is called which should tell you all you need if you can get your hands on it.
I have a small merc force from Marienberg based around the real world VOC (Dutch East India Company)

About halfway down for them, after the dwarf airship and the fluff I used followed
For what it's worth I'd recommend taking an Empire army with some Dogs of War units rather than trying to do pure Dogs of War.

With Empire you can take core Empire units and then use Regiments of Renown and Dogs of War to fill up your special and rare options. I just picked up two Battle for Skull Pass dwarf cannon to act as Dogs of War cannon.
There are really two ways of doing it: Empire with some Mercenaries and pure Dogs of War.

I was working on an Empire Marienburg army for quite some time, but eventually scrapped it because the units just didn't seem to fit the theme right. I have come to believe that a pure Dogs of War army is the way to go.

There is a standing Marienburg army, and one can safely assume that its colors are red, yellow, and blue like those used on the Marienburg warbands for Mordheim:

However, a good case could be made that Marienburg would have changed their colors after seceding from the Empire. Or not.

There are also many private forces working throughout the city, too, and many of these are even better armed and equipped than the standing army. So it would be possible to build a force that looks like whatever you want and call it one of these.

There is also an elven quarter, so a high elf army could be said to be from Marienburg as well.

What I eventually settled on was pikes, crossbows, and cavalry to represent the standing army, with duelists as ships crews or rabble, and dwarves, halflings, elves and ogres representing their various factions.
Has anyone looked at a Marienburg VC/Empire/Dogs of War army in line with the fluff in the VC book about the 'Master of Shadows'?

For those that have not read it, he is a vampire lord that deserted the von Carsteins when they failed to take the city. Since then, he has become the reclusive head of the criminal underworld in Marienburg with many zombie, undead and human minions as well as zombified dukes, barons etc in high places as his vassals.

He has also set himself up as a Baron von Kasperlund, as well as the secretary of the Merchant's Guild and as Magister of the Temple Ascendant, each different identities giving him control of major elements of the city.

As a result, he has a major say in anything that happens in Marienburg and is working towards becoming the ruler of an Undead city!

You could slant a Marienburg army in a number of ways, sticking to the Marienburg colours as above, but using any of the Empire, Dogs of War or VC books/rules (or a mix?) to give an interesting and colourful force.
The VC side is an interesting slant.

Empire or Dogs of War can both work well for a Marienburg army - you just need to decide what units you want.

Best of luck!
