Hey again.

Okay, so I've spent a good portion of my Sunday assembling and converting some Bretonnion Knights and Chaos Marauder Horsemen into a reasonable and not lame looking heavy and light Calvary..I'm happy with it so far, lots of cutting and gluing (my first gluing attempts were embarrassing, its like kinder-garden again!). So a two part question.....

1) Are Calvary worth it? I've noticed a lot of army lists not using them in either form (heavy or fast) in great number. I'm already committed but what should I know as a great weakness of these guys. They are a pretty expensive 19+ base for a heavy, but I like the 2+ save for the heavy. And enjoy the bow abilities of the Fast Calvary.

2) Chariots. Alessio Cavatore's very excellent Dogs of War Part I (which is pretty much my Warhammer bible right now) states, "some characters are sometimes allowed to ride the backs of chariots". I am interested in this idea for a few reasons. But are any characters allowed to ride them? Or specifically referenced ones? Because none of the Heroes are described as being able to use them...

I really enjoyed cutting the arms off of Empire archers and sticking them onto Chaos Marauder horsemen...does that make me a bad person?
1. Dogs of War cavalry can be very well worth in smaller units. For a little more punch, you are better off with Voland's Venators.

2. Excellent? Hah!
No, Dogs of War characters cannot ride in chariots.

3. No, it doesn't make you a bad person, we all enjoy that Tongue
Dammit, really? About the Chariots? That is a little frustrating. Guess I'll have to plan a second army to use it. I'm thinking about Orc's anyways so no big issue there. Guess I'll need to find a new bible...so many conflicting ideas out there.

I'm just building a mobile army to begin with, hopefully make up for the lack of money to buy some of the "meaty" units like Ogres or a good 4-5 ranked pikemen unit. The Bretonnia Knights were given to me as well as a bunch of unused parts i did a Frankenstein Sunday with.I bought the Chaos Marauder Horsemen because I liked the look and they are a pretty cheap unit. I've got some Empire Free Company guys coming to me to build a good Duelist unit with.

My army will be a true rag tag bunch of desperate looters....
The Dogs of War do have a special character that has a chariot; not in the regular Dogs of War rules though, it was from another Warhammer Chronicles book. Mydas the Mean and the Sheikh. Sheikh rides a light chariot.
Its hardly a chariot though, and definitely nothing you want charging into the enemy lines.
While I agree; I was just pointing it that 1 does exist. All beit useless. Tongue

More of a mule cart than a chariot! Really a pity too.
Chariots are ok, but you need to flood defences with them, they are all too fragile otherwise (watch those Dwarves laugh into their beards as they slaughter your chariots one after the other before you cross the field.)

Like any unit, cav needs to be handled right, light cav even more so...remember, it isnt a combat unit, its a harrasment unit.

Heavy cav is there to swing a knockout blow, not stand toe to toe.
with the diversity of shooting power avallebel i woudn't consider going cav heavy
other army's are better suited for that , but you do need a quick moving force that can handle the left overs , and warmachines
, as for chariots with evry now armybook the str7 hits and shots grow , so i woud be carefull to ever fied a chariot
generic Dogs of War Cav are playable, and Voland is good.
