Hey guys, well like I said before, I had a tournament coming up and we started the first round today at 500 points. I decided to go with the first 500 point list I wrote up (see the Army List section) and sure enough, when I announced I was going Dogs of War, many people just laughed and said that I was going to do terrible but still I had quite a crowd for all 3 of the games since many people there never have seen Dogs of War play. Srry, no pics.
1st Game: Dogs of War vs HE
Now this game was interesting, considering the fact that the it was one of the players girlfriend who got into warhammer after she saw him playing it one time (he runs Bretonnia), and was just starting out so he thought it would be an easy game for her so he asked if he could play me first, which they agreed. This is what she ran and note I'm doing this from memory and this will be my first of three battles to report:
*Noble:
-w/lance, hw, hvy. armor, shield, Barded steed
*(15x)Spearmen:
-w/full command
*(6x)Sword Masters:
*(5x)Silver Helms: (w/noble)
-w/musican, SB, shields
The board was pretty small since it was only 500 points, and the only pieces of terrain where 2 hills, one in the middle on her side and one on the left flank on mine, with a small forest in the around the center. Obviously, I placed my cannon and Crossbows on the hill, with the pikes on the right sides of the hill with one unit of calvary next to them with the other front of the hill. She (with her boyfriends help) set up straight across from me, with the spears facing across my pikes, the sword masters right behind them, and the SH w/the noble on her left.
Sergeant Deren sighed as he glanced across the field as the high elf noble made his troops ready for battle, wishing they could have avoided such an outcome, but unable to do anything about it. "Was it wise to insult the elf noble captain" Deren said as he glanced to his young captain." I know he's an arrogant prick but he is an elf. They always think there better then everyone else."
"So I decided to take him down a peg or two, " Captain Rainer replied, a slight smile on his face, " Can't help it if he took those words to heart."
"I know he tried to kick us off the road so that he and his troops could walk through, but comparing his mother to a prostitute and making fun of the fact they're a dying race was a bit overboard in my opinion captain."
"Maybe, but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end." Rainer said, the smile turning into a grin as clapped Deren on the shoulder and pointed at elves supply wagons. "Tell me, what do you think is in that big chest in the front wagon...."
"Insolent cure! How dare he makes fun of the house of Servion!" raged Cartherion as he glared across the filed at human captain who seemed to be pointing at him, which soon turned to the human captain raising his middle digit of his right hand in Cartherions direction with a smile on his face, which caused much merriment amongst the human troops.
"Don't worry prince, we'll teach these mercenary scum what happens when they mess with the sons of Uthulan." his standard bearer said as he shifted Cartherion's house banner to a more comfortable grip. Nodding with agreement, Cartherion's heart swelled with pride as he viewed his small host. The spearmen stood erect, there spears and armor glittering in the morning sun as they stood in neat ranks, while the proud Swordmasters finished there meditation for the coming battle and formed up behind the spearmen. Cartherions own Silver Helms stood ready, there steeds neighing and flicking there heads in eagerness for the battle to begin as the banner of his house fluttered in the wind, the roaring dragon plain to see by all. Raising his lance high he shouted "Forward sons of Uthlan. For Calador, For Victory!"
Turn 1:
Captain Rainer watched calmly as the elf noble raised his lance and as one the elf army began to advance, the silver helms keeping in step with the spearmen as they marched forwards. Shaking his head at there foolishness, Rainer shouted for his crossbowmen and mortar to make ready to fire as his light calvary in front of the hill galloped forward, moving into position to flank the enemy. "Make ready..... Fire!: Rainer roared. The mortar that Rainer won from some dwarfs in a card game made a loud boom as it fired, the cannon ball streaking towards the spearmen and right before it hit, the ball exploded in midair, releasing burning oil which fell among the spearmen, making 4 of them scream in utter anguish as the oil splashed in there faces, there skin melting as they collapsed to the ground withering in agony before lying still. The crossbow bolt sooned followed, hissing through the air as they landed amongst the elf knight's, but only punching one from the saddle as the rest missed there mark. "Deren, tell those bastards that if they don't do better there pay will be cut in half!" Rainer shouted as he readied his pikemen's weapons for the coming assault.
Cartherion's anger and grief grew as he watched 4 of his men die from that infernal machine, watching helplessly as the oil slowly burned them to death. "you will be avenged." he swore as he turned in time to deflect 2 crossbow bolts with his shield as arrows fell among them. A gurgling cry was heard and Catherion cried out as he saw one of his Silver Helms fall, an arrow in his throat. Snarling in anger, Cartherion swore the humans would pay.
Turn 2:
The elf army continued to march forward, the elf calvary galloping ahead while the elf spearmen continued to advance, with the funny looking elves with the big swords marching behind them. "Those guys are definitely compensating or something."Deren snickered as he shifted his pike to a better position.
"Maybe, but I don't want to find out." Rainer muttered as he watched his light cavalry on his pikes immediate right take position in front of them, baiting the elf cavalry to charge while the other made ready to flank the elf spearmen as he raised his hand, "Fire!" Again, the mortar boomed, the cannon ball streaking towards the elf spearmen, who raised there shields for protection. However the cannon ball shot over them, exploding in midair over the elf swordsmen, covering 2 in burning oil as they too screamed horribly as they died, causing the remaining elf swordsmen to panic and they turned to flee, but didn't get far as the crossbows fired again, slaughtering them as the bolts hit them in the back. Rainer turned an roared at the crossbowmen, "Now that's earning your pay!", causing the crossbowmen to erupt in celebration as they realized they would be getting paid after all.
Catherion howled in rage as he watched the Swordmasters fall, and suddenly he was filled with a rage he never felt before in his lifetime. "Silver Helms, charge for vengeance!" he screamed as the silver helms lowered there lances and with war cries charged the human calvary in front of them.
Turn 3:
As the elf cavalry charged, Rainer nodded to his musician, who blew his hunting horn, signaling the light cavalry who immediately turned and retreated from the charging elf cavalry and rode with all there might, running through the pikes and as they passed, Rainer immediately formed them up, just in time as the elf cavalry hit. Meanwhile, the other light cavalry charged the spearmen, but realized that they charged to soon and knew that the spearmen would be ready for them when they hit there flank, (failed by less than a inch). However it proved to be unnecessary as the mortar fired again, the ball exploding over the spearmen, causing 5 more to perish, which was followed up by the crossbowmen who's volley killed only 2, but thankfully for them there captain wasn't paying attention. But it was enough for the spearmen as they glanced in horror at there dying brethren, and starting with one of them, they began to flee, dropping there shields and spears in there hast as they ran, tears of guilt in there eyes.
Catherion's triumphant grin turned to a shock of horror as he registered what had happened, but they couldn't stop and he and his silver Helms crashed into the human pikemen. dogging 3 pikes thrusted at him, he swayed back and lashed out, impaling 2 of the pikemen with his lance while the reaming silver helms managed to impale another 2. Then the humans struck back. Catherion cried out in pain as the human captain lashed out with his sword, striking him the arm and making it usless as the remaining pikemen launched there attacks. Catherion's cry of pain turned to one of grief as he watched his silver helms get cut down, each falling with at least 2 pikes in there bodies as the house standard fluttered out of his friends hand to fall on the ground, which was trampled by the horse as they to screamed as they died. Rearing backon his steed, he turned and ran. Ran for his life as he sobbed bitterly, swearing that his friends would be avenged as he heard the human army cheering there victory behind him.
Result: Massacre for the Dogs of War!
As his men began there celebration, Rainer walked over to the abandoned elf supply wagons to the chest and smashed the lock with his sword. Gold coins spilled from the opening and Rainer laughed as he noticed that this was only one of 4 others, which where smashed open to reveal even more gold. They hit the jackpot. Tossing a gold coin to Deren he gave him the thumbs up. "See I told you it would be worth it." and with that Rainer turned to his army who had gathered around the cart, a broad smile on his face. "Lads, tonight the girls and drinks are on me!" And his army roared there approval as they began to dance and sing with celebration. It was going to be one hell of a night.
