VonSchwarte's Soldiers of Renown
VonSchwartze and his men started their careers as Imperial Halberdiers in the State army of the Reikland. There they were employed in a series of battles against the Beastmen of the forest, and watched helplessly as the army retreated from their villages, letting them fall to the Cloven Ones. Eventually the tide turned at a large engagement known as the Battle of Kriegwasser. Led by the Reikmarshal himself, the Imperial army pushed the Beasts of Chaos back, banishing the broken brayherd back into the twisted woods.
Despite the success, VonSchwartze and his men returned to camp to find that their names had been added to the names of the dead. Amazed, they took the matter to the General (a one Kurt Reppol), who informed them nothing could be done. They could, he said, continue to fight in the army, but it would be for free.
With no pay cheque coming, and no homes to return to, the Halberdiers stood at the edge of the camp, lost until Sergeant Otto suggested they travel to Tilea, and make themselves a life as sellswords.
Three years later, they are aclaimed soldiers, having fought their way across much of the known world. Their prices are steep, but their Imperial discipline is well worth the extra coins.
Hopefully...

Bitter
Shortly before the Battle of Kriegwasser, Otto found out that the Beastmen had overrun his home village. There were no survivors, not even his wife and child. Years later, Otto still blames the Beastmen for stealing his life away from him.
Otto's loss of his home and family means he Hates all Beastmen.

Its a Captain Thing...
The Soldiers of Renown are a supersticious group, and attribute their success to their Sergeant and Captain. This means that if their esteemed commanders are injured, the Soldiers quickly revert back to scared Imperial soldiers...
As long as Captain VonSchwartze are alive, the unit counts as Stubborn.

MAGIC ITEMS
Avenging Blade: (Magic Weapon)
Given to the Captain as payment for a caravan guard detail, the blade crackles with barely contained power.
The Avenging Blade grants the wielder +1S. In addition, any roll to wound of a '6' made with the Avenging Blade ignore Armour Saves.
Problem with these guys are that they are essentially paymaster's bodyguard, but as a core choice. And like Empire halberdiers, they don't hit hard enough to make them worthwhile, though the heavy armour makes them stick around a little longer. And they should be 9pts per model not 16(!). In short: nice try, but they are redundant I'm afraid.
Maybe you should read the Creating Infantry Units article in The Doom Seeker 3 (and creating special characters from TDS 2). Cavalry Units will be in the next issue.
ThankS for the feedback, I think these guys will just stay as a named Paymasters Bodyguard, it's easier. Ah well, you win some...
This is no bodyguard gentlemen.

S5 halberdeers (I miss a digit on the stats of the normal halberdeers, make that a 4! just like the champion), with a sergeant and a captain who wears a magical halberd... doesn't sound very bodyguardish.

a bodyguard is rented by the paymaster personally this unit is not AND it is stubborn without a paymaster.... hence possible 2 stubborn units.

I think this is the first unit that adds something to the pallet of units we do have...
anywhere was a website, to create whf-units by giving in the states and weaponry...but I forgot the link Sad
Thanks henerius, you've just convinced me to return to work on my own unit! Do I need to alter costs for this, or perhaps change Stubborn to something else to get rid of that 'Bodyguard' vibe?
P.S. Fluff still to follow.
P.P.S. Fluff and Bitter rule added.
make them unbrakeble !!
I like them better now, but make them Strength 4 and remove stubborn and you will have a decent unit that doesn't remind too much of the bodyguard.

you've missed that -> (4) one Wink
P.S. Make them stubborn on their standard.. and maybe the blade should be a halberd. But that's just a thought.
Made some changes. what do people think?

Its a sword so that he looks different, and nothing says 'cool' like a dude with a magic sword and a shield surrounded by a bunch of S5 halberds!
:DHa ha! S5 Halberds...
They are better, but I would only make them stubborn while the leader is alive, not the standard bearer too. And they are still really overpriced, put them at 9 pts per model.
Changes made!
I think 9 points is a little low, and I like to be conservative.
