Which do you prefer and why?

Does your preference change depending on the makeup of the rest of your army?

Does your preference change depending on the makeup of your expected opposition?

In my basic 2000 point list I've made room for one or the other. I haven't logged a ton of playing time to be terribly certain of my preferences, but right now I'm leaning towards the Truthsayer. I would normally be including him with a unit of pikemen in order to lend his higher leadership and his more defensive spells to their benefit. I know there isn't a lot of love for pikemen in the tactical sense, but the opportunity to make them unbreakable, gain 5+ ward saves, or give them a +1 to hit in combat seems more valuable than a dark emissary's offensive power under similar circumstances. The moderate combat ability and better ward save of the Truthsayer over the Dark Emissary is also a bonus.

What units do you add your Dark Emissary or Truthsayer to?
Truthsayer brings a lot more to the game than the Dark Emissary. Dark Emissary perhaps suits magical gunline armies better, but since we have to use one of our slots on a useless Paymaster... well... we're done a hero slot already.

The Truthsayer however as you pointed out, can buff units really well, and brings much needed magic defense to the army.

However, to be honest, neither. Australia/ETC doesn't seem to want to give Dogs of War a helping hand outside the tier system. So in general, Albion stuff isn't allowed.
