Hey guys,
I'm looking for shields to use to make my Bearmen as much like the old one's as possible. This means instead of using Marauder shields, I want to use a round shield and either sculpt or paint on the bear claw symbol.
However, I've found that the old Dwarf shields are too small, because well Dwarves are smaller. I expect that the Skaven, being smaller also, will likely have small shields as well.
So that leads me to my last bunker of hope, the old Skeleton Shields. Could anyone tell me the diameter of the old edition Skeleton shields (Obviously not the new kit). Even better if they have the actual Bearmen models and could post a comparison picture. Or if they have old Dwarf/Skaven shields and could post a comparison between that.
Just trying to see what size the old Skeleton shields are. The old Dwarf one's are really a rim to small to suit the beefcake Marauders.

jeez, I thought I answered that question allready

....
Anyway I compared the bearmen shield and a skeleton shield ....and they're exactly the same.....the skeleton shield sprue bears the date of producrtion 1997, dont know which edition that would be...if still not clear, just ask, mate & good luck1
Yeah, you answered how large the Bearmen shields were! But I didn't ask how large Skeleton shields were (only compared to Skaven at the time, which I assume are too small).
1997 sounds about right for the old Skeleton shields, I'm looking at getting the ones here

Im comparing the sizes right now..and they appear to be the same sprue, so I guess it's 99% the same thing.... It's odd u can't see the production year on the sprue on the site even when I zoom in the picture. Did they remove it or what?
Anyway good luck!
Maybe the production date is on the other side of the sprue
Ok, sweet. Looks like I've got me some Bearmen shields to make then.
Unless you are already decided, I would consider using Beastmen shields, gives them a more feral look, which suits the bearmen nicely imo.
There's two problems I have with the beastmen approach.
A) There shields already have pre-sculpted things on them. So I'd have to remove them, and then I'd definately have to sculpt the bear paw insignia on them.
B) Lack of availability. Can't just buy Beastmen shields off the GW site. The bits site I use also doesn't have them - probably because they're waiting for new Beastmen bits to come in.
C)New Beastmen shields have the arm moulded into them for some odd reason... I guess GW think people aren't smart enough to clip off weapons from the extra hand weapon arms...
So that's 3 I suppose. It had crossed my mind, but it's also a fair bit more work.
Orc Shields could work too, at least they don't have sculpted insignias on them.
what i do is get the old beastmen shields and add the a bear foot print with green stuff or painted it on !!
the wooden beast man shield are the best one gw ever did
