Golden Pike III
Holiday competitions are always tough and no more so the at Dogs of War Online. The contest this time around was to create and paint a giant. Despite best intentions on even my part I was unable to even get my old Giant in as the base was not ready.

But enough of that, two entries and here they are. Sorry in advance I wish there were more photos but this is what we have to work with.

So without further delay here are the the entries in random and anonymous order.

Poll will run for 10 days and then close.

Once the poll is done the Golden Pike medal will be awarded to the winner. When we get more then 10 entries the Silver and Bronze will be awarded. So stay tuned for the next one. Hopefully we will pick a subject matter that everyone will like Wink

In addition the winner will be placed in the Golden Pike Hall of Fame galleries which are now working, but need a bit of tweaking from my end.

So congrats and good luck to the entrants for this round and awesome work.

Willmark
This one is difficult.
I think Giants are a tough one. They're quite large, and expensive kits (While not expensive in terms of what you get, but you do have to fork out the money for it). I personally, couldn't afford to drop 2 month's worth of painting to convert and paint a Giant unfortunately! That's the problem with keeping to a schedule!

So I don't think it's not people didn't like the subject - just it's a lot of work for a large model! Something I've found out working on my Dragon, which I've been working on since August! So yeah, major props to the two guys who got entries in. Painting a giant is no small feat.

They both look very nice. The red scales on the 2nd one, really pop and draw your eye to them. However, I think I like the first one better. I think the first one's colour complement each other more.
Ok, I recognize one thing: Every time Golden Pike is announced, people are running around, talking about what they will paint and they have sooo much to conversion and such a good idea...so you believe, there will be about ten entries. Actually the number of entries decreases every contest. It's a shame...people go for it, Dogs Of War online lives because of it's community.

I'm also not better, cause I have no Giant in my army anymore and I didn't want to enter a Treeman, this would be too proxy.
Congrats to the competitors, both are nice ones.

PS: Marauder Minis... I luv them!!!!!!!!
Both entries were very well done! I like the kilt painted on the marauder giant. Don't see that model around too often any more. If I had joined this site sooner, I might have just had time to put in an entry! The painting is well done on both entries. Best of luck to all!

Well as long as the next one coincides with what I'm doing I'll enter it. Tongue Considering I'm just now building my Dogs of War army. Been working on my Capasus all morning.

As for the Giant's, the both look good. I do dig the kilt though; that's an extra special piece of awesome. Smile
I thought of making one but never got around to assembling the pieces since it was mainly going to be scratch built. Who knows, maybe I'll make it in the future.
Wot will be the next subject of Golden Pike IV?
I agree that it's a shame there weren't more entries.
However i can understand the problems, like Willmark i had my giant underway but due to real life i didn't get the time to finish him.
The sad thing is, the paymaster i started working on for the last Golden Pike is still sitting unfinished on my work top - without the incentive of the competition there isn't the impetus to finish him just yet.
If you run armies like my normal armies (Chaos Dwarfs and Slayers) that can't even take a Giant it's hard to get motivated to build one.
sorry but my vote instantly goes too the 1st entry...
why?
its got a kilt of course!
first entry...88.24%...öhm, how much days to vote?

I would have to agree. That is one of the best 'old' model Giants I have seen. Bravo!
I have to say number 1 is my favourite out of the two, its just a perfect representation of Giant in my opinion, I love the model and the painter has done an amazing job on it. Smile

No offence to number two, but I don't like the model, the only reason I think the kit would be any use to me is for the extra bits Undecided

Ciao!

Just my opinion! In fact I sold my plastic giant on ebay, cause I really disliked the model!

It's just too fat, tall and wearing waaaaay too little, it doesn't impress me at all, apart from the technology GW now have to produce plastic kits of that size and detail.
Voting is now over so look for the official annoucement thread shortly ie the next few days.
