Well, I have come to the conclusion that my Empire-based Marienburg army is not going to really work out. I was just having too much trouble reconciling the Empire models and theme to that upstart city. In the process, I painted up 5K Dogs of War pirates and 3K Ogres to use as mercenaries in the army, but they'll keep.
This means that I am taking my Empire army in a different direction: The Order of the Cleansing Flame.
It is an army of Myrmidian Witch hunters who aim to clean up the remaining taint of mutation and corruption following the Storm of Chaos. They are based out of Talabecland, where the Suns are already well established, and aim to build on the power vacuum left by Conrad Feuerbach's dissappearance.
It will not feature the typical witch hunter look, but instead have more of a Knights of the Blazing Sun feel. It is led by a High Priest of Myrmidia on war altar and a Grand Master of the Blazing Suns. I'll get some pics going as I touch up a few of the units from the old army and add some new ones as well.
How are you intending to model the Cleansing Flames?
Old fluff appears to have them on foot with spear and shield and chainmail, like Brets, but with a conical helmet (Norman?), with the GM armed with a mace and the captain/champion with a flaming sword.
Are you looking to update them more in line with the Blazing Suns and give them mounts?
Perhaps Baumann can advise how he is looking at them in his RoR update?
Cleansing flame knights wear Teutonic Helmets, Old Glory makes some suitable models for them, gonna get some myself. Just search for "german knights" and you should find them.
I like the 'Marienburg theme' but I find this new one also interesting..
The problem is that it's a little difficult to make it if you have already bought your units..

First of all I don't like the Altar. Here's why: This is a knight-themed cult. A Priest should be affected by this, so he should be on a Warhorse too! War Altar is a little too-Imperial concept/invention. I mean the War Altar is a too characteristic and unique unit to exist in almost every religious cult.. That's how
I see it of course..
I don't know how this army looks, so I can't give any further advise on this. The only thing, could be that I wouldn't like to see any Steam Tank, Flagellants or ANY type of machine (except maybe mortars). The reason is simple: Knights DON'T like machines. Actually, they don't like any type of shooting, because they think that an honorable warrior should fight and fall in a hand-to-hand combat. Of course, the poor infantry lacks the armour and the steed a knight has, so it's reasonable if the first ones allow them carrying some types of bows (longbows, crossbows etc)!
I would like to see a unit of free companies, but I guess that an army of Myrmydia COULD be a little more organized than a popular Sigmarite army, so most of the units should be experts..
Well, the first few models are done:
Captain on Pegasus
Battle Standard Bearer

Well, apart from the orange armour, it looks pretty good

Don't get me wrong, but for a fanatic army of holy warriors, your guys look imho a little too colourful and bright.
PS: just found this

Oh yeah, that's right, the Cleansing flame looks like High Elves, it's the Knights of Origo I was talking about earlier!
They look great but I would agree that the organe needs to be toned down. Show us more!
Yeah, I might change the armor on the BSB to look more like my Blazing Suns.
Here, first, is a mounted fire wizard.

Just finished a war altar:
And a steam tank:

Is that the Go-kart of Sigmar? The old steamtank that GW used when they gave the Halflings a tank in White Dwarf.
Yeah, that's the one. When not crushing the enemy on the battlefield, it moonlights as a turret on my dwarf steamship.
the orange is very well done, but maybe you should paint a little less orange
Nice stank is that on the chariot base ? Like your WA as well you have a nice lokking army !!
Great looking WA and stank, colour contrast of the war altar is striking and well done....and they are great hitting units as well. I still have to paint mine.

But I was told the old stank should go on the same base as the new ones :.. 80x 100 if I'm not wrong?
You should put the tank on the current base size to keep it game legal.
Well, I finally got one more model finished, the Grand Master:

Needs to be a bit more in focus methinks.
