Now, be careful with the jokes!!
I'm planning on using my mounted general as the mighty Borgio, The Besieger. I've considered joining him on a unit of Voland's Venators, 8 strong. Now... I'll probably be facing those damned High Elves! So, to pump it a little more, I've tought about having our dear Master Gunner Bronzino joining this unit.
How threatening does this sounds?
Give me your opinions. Like, Is Lorenzo a better character? or why Voland's, or the like! Help me blasting elves in C/C!!
Personally, I'm not so fond of our special characters. Because they're artefacts left over from 6th edition, when it was cool to take up mulitple slots for a single character. That slotted along with the fact we have to take a weakling Paymaster, means it's very difficult to slot them into the army.
For instance, take Borgio. He's a Lord and Hero (like most of them are). You add in the Paymaster, and at 2k points, you've only got 1 slot left which basically has to be a scroll caddy. Mydas isn't bad, because he doesn't cost anything extra, just forces you to take a slightly better Bodyguard unit.
As for whether Borgio or Lorenzo is better. I'd say it depends. Borgio is tougher since he comes with a ward save, better armour save, and gets back up on 4+. He's better at passing his leadership around as well. However, he hits like a fly unless you roll a 6 to hit.
Lorenzo hits better due to ignoring armour saves, he has some protection in the Shield of Myrmidia, and he has a better stat depending on what he rolls. I don't think his Ring of Luccina is that important at regular game sizes, because as mentioned, you only have a caddy to draw out dispel dice... not enough to get the ring off.
So who is better? Not really sure. Borgio is cheaper, but you're still paying a fair amount for a strength 4 character. I personally wouldn't take either, since we need our precious hero slots for stuff like Asarnil and magic defense.
Edit : Oh, High Elves. Well then Borgio aint bad. They've got low armour saves, so it doesn't matter as much that Borgio has bad armour penetration. And if you're facing Knights, well then leave it to Voland and the boys.
Why, thanks!
I'm trying to field an army of 2250 points, and I've always been atracted to The Besieger. Loved his fluff and all of that...
Well, thank you! So, about Bronzino, it's worth joining him to the Venators to 'fetch' some more punch?
Bronzino doesn't exactly pack 'any' punch. He's just a Captain on a warhorse. In fact he's weaker than a regular captain, because he doesn't have a shield, barding or have a decent weapon of some sort.
I think you should just leave the punching to the Venator's.
I'm not sure how people use Bronzino. My suggestion would be putting him with Light Cavalry or something to make use of his leadership (Since all of our block units have leadership 8 or better anyway. Regiment of Renown pikes have their own Captains, Norse don't care about leadership...). You could potentially have him running around on his own also, going after war machines or something.
I agree with somene2040. Voland's Venators are awesome heavy cavalry, and I would just put some Horse Archers with them, to protect their flanks and soften up opponents. They make excellent "hammers," to use with your other flank's "anvil."
Bronzino is a character of a regiment of renown. He is different then other RoR characters for he can leave his unit;"Bronzino mus be deployed together with one team, but can then ride from one team to another or operate on his own as a seperate character."
That's what Bronzino may do, no more and no less. Joining other units then his own is out of the question.
