My dogs of war cavalry. Heavy cavalry without barding, in the time of mailorder I did order 20 pistoliers and the arms and banners of the "Gryphon Legion". The banner you see here is my first freehand, matching the shields of the Knightly orders (knights panther shields).

A well a few weeks ago I wanted to claim a 3000 points medal for my Dogs of war, (actually I wanted to claim two Tongue) but the photo's were not yet posted on the forum, so no medal rewarded. I started unpacking my load of horses and... Sad the banners were missing! of both units Confused (I am also missing a musician from a knight unit but hey... detail)

After the tears dryed I simply started making 2 new bannerbearers for the units, but I drybrushed the first fellow and the result was quit refreshing. (well it beats bronze with a black ink over it by miles at least...) So the other 9 went to get a bath and the ponies are dipped in a wash, etc, etc.
Here the WIP result sofar.

The bardingless heavy cavalry is going to assist my estalians in their quist to take over the world! Spanish cabalero cavalry, bardingless, fast manoeuvering horsemen who can launch lightning attacks on enemy flanks.

toe bie kontinjoet!

regards,

Henerius

P.S. I found my old photo's back on photobucket Angel A truckload of bad pictures Big Grin
Nice pics nice to see your WIP !
Yes, the old pistoliers and gryphon legion, all metal and looking very apropriate for light cavalry are the right minis for this kind of conversion. They should be the best painted unit in the army I guess. Good work!
some more WIP pictures. Smile

GREAT PAINTING On the horses !! i like the the marking nice details!!
I agree it's a nice looking army. I have one tiny comment thou... on the horses...in reality grey horses usually have dark/black mane and tails. But I'm no expert and we're talking fantasy here, right?

My father would agree with Dariusz, grey horses have black/dark grey hair. This is a more lazy but efficient solution.

I didn't knew that off napoleonic cavalry. I believe you refer to the british troopers/horses Uryens? If I am correct the british cav even made napoleon turn green of envy.
Thats right Henerius, the infamous "Scots Greys", the finest cavalry in all of Europe, only countered by Nay's Lancers.

That is to the next rain, I guessTongue
Painted the cloth on the troopers Dark Bleu. Making the banner more interesting by adding horizontal striping seemed oke to me. The colour of the regiment could so be added more easily. The light bleu is mainly flashlight. In RL it is not as fearcausing as on the picture

The blanket under the saddle got the same yellow update like the banner.. both will be toned down to the more moderate colours used on my estalian troops.

Great job on the models. The horses are fantastic. I wish mine were that nice.
Washes make an average painter look good Guido Wink

Banner: Down graded the bleu a bit. In RL (sun light) it seemed very bleu as well...

I have been painting parts of the men.. hands, clothing .. small bits.
For shields I am going to use the 6th ed. spearman shields, painted in the same style as the "knights of Myrmidia".

Very nice looking Heavy Cavalry. I like the colour scheme, and the look. Wonderful banner.

My only criticism is the join lines on the horses, they could have used a wipe of GS or some smoothing with the hobby knife to get rid of the somewhat distracting line.
