Welcome to the 3rd Golden Pike competition of Dogs of War Online, the premiere site for all Dogs of War players and the final painting contest for 2009, where did the time go?

Now that we are almost fully back from our crashed state (only theme remains) we are going full steam ahead with this next Golden Pike! So rather then play it safe We decided to try something new... And if your wish didn't happen this time in terms of subject matter, never fear: Next year there will be 4 more contests!

Subject Matter
Create and paint a Giant for your Dogs of War force!

So what do we mean by this?
Create, modify, what have you a giant for submission for this Golden Pike. The giant should be a great chance to create a center piece for your army.

Basing
The giant must be mounted on a base that is legal for Warahammer fantasy battle games: 50x75mm

Particulars, Deadline? and how to enter
Due Date: 11:59 PM December 31st, 2009 EST (Eastern Standard Timezone)

Send all entries to the Goldenpike account (a special user that all Staff have access to). Again, no later then 11:59 PM December 31st, 2009 EST (Eastern Standard Timezone). Entries will not be accepted after that date and time regardless of how cool your submission is. (This is around 10 weeks to complete your entry).

If for some reason you are having trouble with your submission, contact one of the Staff. In order to avoid problems, I "highly advise" that entrants do not wait until the very last minute to submit their entries...

Next, for tips on how to take great photos look here:

Photographing on a white background works wonders and makes my job easier too Smile

If you win:
- Rightly take your place in the Golden Pike Hall of Fame, where your glory will be remembered for years to come.
- Receive the Golden Pike medal for your online persona. If more then ten people enter the silver and bronze will be awarded as well.
- Everyone who enters gets a number of gold ducats equal to the number of entries. If 50 people enter we award 50 gold ducats to each person who entered.*

Good luck everyone, make us (the Staff) proud.
Ooh, a Giant huh. We'll see how things go. With Asarnil currently on the workbench, I wasn't planning on doing a Giant until much later on.
Although, I did just get the Giants of Albion. Hrmm....
I might actually make some time to get mine in... Confused
Probably there won't be much entires, 'cause I don't think everyone has a giant in his (or her) army.

PS: what's the size for the giant base?

We are not everyone will have one, but this gives them the perfect opportunity to get one, everyone can use a good Giant.
Except those nancy boy Bretonnians, but we don't care about them since they're too busy polishing their helmets and poking each other with their lances Tongue
Boo. Not Giants, unless Ogres can count too.

If I have to believe our user map, most of us live at CET (Central European Time) Big Grin

And I agree with Uryens. (As unofficial member of the Ogre promotion team Tongue )
Perhaps ogres will be the next one... guys your looking at this a bit skewed. Take it for what it is, there will be plenty more contests to come. Each one the staff tries to come up with something new. If it doesn't work out... Go to the next contest. The plan next year is to have a Golden Pike every 3 months...

Henrius- yeah but the Site Owner lives in the EST Wink
The site owner should move, or buy a second clock so he knows what the right time is Wink

<mutter mutter giants are stoopid mutter mutter>
Can I enter my giant that is allready painted? and shown on this site before? (in the armlybook sextion)
According to the rules, is it ok to built a Gigantic Creature, what isn't actually a Giant, for example the conversion of a Bloodthirster or somethink else big?

And what's the size of the base in centimetre?

Never mess with an Admin. Your entry could get misplaced.

Giant
Giant
Giant

I may have to try and do a Giant.

<bizarre ideas streaming from Bilbo's head. But then he remembers his lacking scuplting/painting abilities.>
Heh I think Bilbo has the right idea Wink

giant bases are 40x60 mm AFAICR.

Squrrielfreak-up to you, there is not restriction barring that for this particular Golden Pike.
According to the GW (French) base size chart from 2009 the Giant goes on a 50x75mm base and Giants of Albion on a 50x50mm base.

The GW (English) base size chart from 2003 says the Giants (all) are on 50x50mm bases.
hmmm i might re do my undead giant and paint that to a better standard, ill cover it in gore and guts! bwuhahahahahaha

the date is interesting though, i wonder how many of us are going to stop half way through old lang syne and curse as we forget to send our entry Smile
@ willmark: thanks
Ill double check tonight. The point of the base requirement is to make sure a persons entry doesn't become a diorama.
1. Can we enter more than one giant?

2. Can we enter figures we already have painted or is this restricted to new stuff done specifically for the Golden Pike contest?
You may enter ONE giant.

You may enter something already seen on he site but bear in mind this may lessen the impact of your entry...
Hmmmm.... interestink...

A giant is probably the only thing i wasn't considering for my new Dogs of War army... but now....
EVERYBODY can take a giant. And everybody should have one.
I'm doing a new one themed for my new army.

Well not everybody can have a Giant.

Besides the Dogs of War these armies can take the Mercenary Giant:
Empire, Dark Elves, Vampire Counts, Tomb Kings, Skaven

Plus Orcs and Goblins, Ogres (Slave Giant), Warriors of Chaos, and Beasts of Chaos have their own.
Exactly, Everybody that matters Big Grin
Nobody cares about the poncy elves or those annoying stunties Tongue

What size do I have to do now?
