well first off id like to say happy birthday to deamonslayer who is my little brother in real life
so being the caring older brother that i am i decided to buy him a gift, more specifically an engineer
now i know he had posted his own from scratch engineer but i decided to get a GW one simply because i was in my local store and seen the guy with the massive hammer

so in under two hours i battled to paint him and also took some pics along the way tell me what you think

first off the bat is the beard, now as a master engineer this dwarf will have a few centuries of life under his belt and will have a suitably white and long beard, so i decided to go with a full set of highlights from black to 99% white to show the age and reputation of the model

next up is skin tone, i started with tallarn flesh, mixed with a little bit of left over grey from the beard and started highlighting from there, adding more and more bronzed flesh until he looked suitably bronze skinned, then i remembered that an engineer would spend some time in the forge, away from the sun, working on new and interesting ways to kill goblins
so i started going for a paler skin tone by adding bleached bone and eventually a dab of skull white too the mix
i also made a purple wash and put it on the face, being suitably pleased with it i then washed all of the skin with it and re-highlighted it with the white-grey-flesh mix from before, making sure that some of the purple stayed in the recesses

now it was onto the chainmail and the hammer which was a simple boltgun metal -> chainmail highlight
i was soon ready for the gold pieces in the model including making his bandana golden for no apparent reason and using dwarf bronze and shining gold

the last thing to do was the cloth which included the miarad of pouches and the back pack the engineer carries with him and was just "I swear too much" brown washed with devlan mud and re highlighted with "I swear too much" brown
there is also a few bits of cloth that i decided to do as green to match with the rest of deamonslayer's army

there arent any photos of him with the backpack on but to be honest it doesnt change anything
never the less here is a completed photo

comments and critique are welcome!
You need to base it. Big Grin

Nicely done.
Very nice.

I'm quite jealous now Wink
Baumann, just run up to the north end of your island and make him an offer to paint for you. Big Grin
Some damn good painting of a nice model!
Are you suggesting a border raid Bilbo? Its a bit far to run anyway Tongue
If Baumann was a Chaos Dwarf I would have suggested Enslavement. Since he is a Mercenary just make him an offer he can't refuse. Big Grin
Hey well done! I like him
Nice start, but I think, noses of dwarfs are likely to be some tone of soft red (ya know, the freezing cold in the mountains and the beer...)
Besides Bilbo, the border raid needs to start from somewhere around about 2/3s of the way north - going in either direction - so long as we get our share of the loot.
The model you chose is really awesome and also nice to paint..since u made a painting blog and asked for comments - I would point some highlights could be done on top. Paint some more dwarven bronze on the hammer and helmet and other metal details, then some gold and finaly some silver on ever smaller areas. U can also highlight his green robe with a lighter tone of green..or add white in the paint , if u only have one colour. Do the same with the shoes and he will look even more immpresive, than he is now. Maybe u could also point out some details on the pistol with some other collour- gold comes first to my mind, now it sort of merges with the figure..otherwise nicely done!

...just noticed it's an old blog....silly, silly me "bangs the head to the computer" Confused...ahhhh, what the hell, just buy another mini and paint it according to this advice so that my effort doesn't go in vain.
Just reviewed the model after reading Dariusz comments. I have to agree on the comments he made.

That doesn't downgrade the work done on the model, which is very good, but it can be improved no doubt.

Oh, thats a great. I like the color combination which you have used in this. As per my thinking you have used different diffrent color like brown and green in one. This is the new scenario.
