Hey all, I posted a list somewhat similiar to this on the last ed of this forum and took it to my first fantasy tourny....I came 3rd last but got best painted by a new player, so I was happy overall.

There's another tourny nearby thats specifically for newer players, and I thought it would be fun to get back into it and change the list up a bit. Tourny is 1999 points, in other words 2k but with no lord, 1 rare, 3 specials etc etc.

Here's the list I've come up with:

Heroes
Paymaster-Heavy armour, enchanted shield, morning star
-71

Wizard-2 dispel scrolls, (general)
-110

Boyar-Horse, heavy armour, shield, sword of might (Contingent commander)
-126

Core
24 Alcatani Fellowship
-251

8 Duellists- pistols, musician
-82

8 Duellists- pistols, musician
-82

5 light cav
-55

11 Winged Lancers- full command
-296

12 Kossars- musician
-103

5 Ungol Horse Archers- musician
-92

Special
19 Dwarves- Heavy Armour, shield, full command
-220

14 Lumpin Croops
-146

3 Maneaters- Heavy Armour, 2 Cathayan Longswords, 1 Great Weapon
-270

Rare
Cannon
-85

Total-1999

It's really hard with only limited character, special and rare slots. I thought about trading the cannon for a hot pot, (i like them both) but the cannon is just so good against big things I figured it was a more solid choice.

I also thought about dropping the wizard for a captain to give more leadership and fighting but I dunno, with Daemons and VC and so on it seems like magic defence might be important.

The Maneaters I also thought about dropping as well as 4 halflings for 10 Gryphon Legion to give a bit more theme and they both act as a good hammer. Overall i think the list is ok, I just dont know whether to give up on attacking and just load up on xbows or to stick to this more attacking list.

Other units I have at home are more duellists, long drongs, (they are ok, but seem very defensive), some empire xbowmen I could draft in, heaps more Kislev stuff.

Anyway, advice is appreciated..

Liam
I don't have any experience yet with Dogs of War, but maybe split the winged lancers in 2 (or 1 with 5 and full command).

Maybe put the paymaster on a horse and add it to the lancers. That way you have a effective hard hitting unit. Then you can add a second cannon or a hotpot if you want.

Also swap the alcantani to regular pikemen or upgrade even to ricco. The WS 2 will only be in your disadvantage I think.

The special choices seem ok. Although with only lumpin as effective shooting this seems rather limited (still they could work on a flank I guess)

Still, this is what I would do and as I said before, I don't have any experience with Dogs of War, only with orcs en skaven en WoC.
Dogs of War are actually good at 1999 pts because nobody has Lords, but Dogs of War can still field a couple Lord-level characters (Asarnil & Beorg). Take advantage of that.

3 Heroes
- Paymaster HA&ES, BoP
- Wizard, lv.2 & 2 Dispel (Beasts, General)
- Asarnil

1 Rare
- (Deathfang)

3 Specials
- 20+ Beorg's Bearmen
- 15 Mengil's Manflayers
- 2 Maneaters

2+ Core
- 6 Voland's Venators
- 10 Pistol Duellists

extra points to Light Cav, Pistol Duellists

This is a pretty hard list for 1999 because you've got a Dragon, Beorg (who's basically an Ork Warboss who can be pumped via Anger to Bloodthirster levels), Voland as an extra Captain, and Mengil as a bonus Dark Elf Hero.
You cannot put a character from the main army in the allied contingent and vice versa. (believe it to be in the allied contingent rules pack)

2x5 winged lancers are solid advice, the unit's need unit strength of 5 for the panic tests.

Instead of the dwarfs you could opt for a 6 man Voland's unit. (lancers, light cav, ungol horse archers, 3 skirmish units, Ogres; that is alot of speed, where do the dwarfs fit in? Voland's have a FC, if you give one of the lancer unit's the same it might work.)

You could opt for the paymaster to mount and the Wizard(general) to take his spot in alcantani's.

good luck,
