My Dogs of War army. As previous stated: The theme for my army is a pre-‘War of the Beard’ army. All models are to be either dwarven or elven or converted to look so. This army was born out of two things. The first being models I’d like to buy and paint but can’t use in my other armies, and the models I already owned that aren’t painted., after all why give gw more money then you have too!
My beginning idea was to use my left over empires stuff (xbows, cannon, knights, random wizards and characters - almost none of which I am actually using!) However liking reason and rhyme I looked at a the potential list, and I really wanted an excuse to buy the HE dragon model. So I settled on my theme, and with minimal additional purchasing, and a few trail runs settled upon the following as my “All comers” standing Dogs of War army.
Eolphan the Bright: Lvl 4, Scroll, Powerstone, Talsman of Protection, Pegasis 325
Paymast Gruzzel: HA, Mounted/Barded Pistol Enchanted Sh, Morning Star: 92
Asarnil the Dragon Lord: 460
5 Fast Cav MU spear/bows (yes bows)! 85
5 Fast Cav MU spear/bows
5 Heavy Cav Barding MU/STD 135 – The standard is there for a bit static combat rez, and hoping that these guys don’t rubber lance as much as the empire knights did.
9 Duelist pistols – 81

22 Dwarf Warriors: ha sh FC 223
22 Dwarf Warriors: ha sh FC 223
10 Dwarf Crossbows: sh ha MU 150
10 Dwarf Crossbows: sh ha MU 150
Goblin Hewer 130
2250
As it stands I am 1/0/1 with this army (W/L/D).
THis is mainly going to be my fluff army, and my "pretty" army.
I like the look and theme of the army.
Just a few other tack-ons on my theme.
Eolphan will always take the Lore of Light – both for fluff and practical reasons
Paymaster Gruzzel (spoken as if you had a think irish accent –with a very a long ‘u’) Is a dwarf on a pony, he’s got a pistol in one hand and a mug o’ bugmans finiest in his other!
The fast cav has is the WE glade riders – just great models.
My duelest are black arc corsar models, coverted dwarven pistols
And my heavy cav is converted empire knights with HE/DE bits mixed in, clearly elven mounts didn’t gain their speed untill after the split!
To my knowledge, dwarfs didn't have gunpowder weapons pre WotB.
But other than that, I absolutely love the idea!
They didn't have a hewer either, but it still looks good for an army.

I suppose you could fluffily say that a variation of the modern one was invented back then.. called a er.. Daemon hewer and Malakai is just a cheat. even if he is awesome and Scottish.
Look closely - the only dwarf with black powder is the paymaster!
Yup I was most definately aware of that. However part of the fun was this army was converting up Wysiwyg. I really didn't want to have just standard looking models, ie I didn't want to hear people say "so you just grabbed those lads from your DE army". I want to hear "Ah I see you did a bit of converting for your Dogs of War army" I also wanted a distinctive 'feel' to my Dogs of War army, - one thing that drove me from empire was the puffy coats. I thought it would be more fun (for me) to build using models I liked - and making them wysiwyg!
Admitible though if Dogs of War had more black powder, such as hanggunners or the like, I would be using it!
Thanks for the comments.

Elves didn't have black powder either. In fact no-one had it until basically the Empire was quite old.
Black Power = Ancient elvish secret - Probably a gift from the "Old Ones" or left over relics from the time of the Imperium!

Hehe Lizardmen with lasguns ftw!

Once upon a time Chaos Space Marines used to turn up in the Chaos Wastes.....
Anyway back on topic, as i've said before i love the theme of the army. You can always explain the elves stats dropping by saying that they've been drinking to much dwarf ale

I was going to use dwarves for duelest - however the potential confusion seemed unnessecary - I would try building some slayer pirates, but I think my dwarven stash of pistols has been depleted!
Alright lads, just some brief feed back on my above list. My current scores are 1/1/1.
I beat an interesting DE build - no hydra, 1 lvl 4 caster, 1 couldron, lots of black guard, fast cav, and harpies. The goblin hewer went a long way in securing this game for me, simply carving through those elven ranks.
Drew against a Dogs of War army - very similar to mine, each army with a dragon was an intersting dynamic, he one-shot my hewer with this cannon, and game me no flank openings against his blocks
Lost to a different DE playing - he won the first turn shot the dragon out from underneath me, and I couldn't make an armour save to save my life... This game was a slow grind into defeat, just one of those where not much seemed to go my way! The units of the match for me where my pistoliers - the cause much constant damage by skirting and moving in and out of woods.
After a couple of games I've realized that I've come to depend upon my hewer and dragon more then anything else...
OK, what are you doing with your Dwarves? They're the bulk of your remaining points and eating all 4 Specials, so if you're not getting a lot of use out of them as Specials, then that's where the problem lies.
Personally, I don't like Dwarves for Special - they lack killiness and promote slow, static play. Maneaters, Manhide, Norse - stuff which can actually kill stuff can help you out.

I can't disagree with that! In fantasy I started as a dwarf player, and they still are my favorate army. I problem is theme. I may just forget theme a pick up some more orges, and norsemen. Dwarves are (used to be) tough, but my main frustration with then is the lack of killing power.
Shooting Just doesn't cut in any more in this game.
