My friends,
I'm going to go play at a local store where you bring 750 pts and either play 1-on-1 or combined matches (depending on how many people show up). There are usually some little scenarios. The twist this week is that they're trying to focus on warmachines, so you get one warmachine at half the regular cost.
So clearly I want a cannon. Beyond that, I'm leaning in two directions: aggressive or defensive.
First, here is my idea for the core of an aggressive, offensive force:
Paymaster w/ Morning Star, Enchanted Shield, HA — 71
Captain w/ Sword o' Might, HA, Sh — 76
8 Duellists w/ Pistols — 72
8 Duellists w/ Pistols — 72
5 Light Cav w/ Bows — 75
14 Norse Marauders — 126
Cannon — 42.5 (w/ the discount)
This leaves me with 215 pts to spend (or more if I drop one unit of duellists or the LC unit). Obviously I want another block of infantry but I don't think that pikes are suited for charging aggressively across the board (though maybe they'd be fine in that respect?). I'm always loath to take dwarves because they are my other main army and so I like to get away from them sometimes, but they are the only other really good option. I could use Maneaters, I suppose and just not worry about SCR. Or I could go over the top and get Long Drong's. That would be expensive but certainly work as a tarpit. It makes sense in this kind of army to take HC as well. Perhaps that's more important than the LC, and then put the captain on a horse with a lance?
The defensive army would look more like this:
Paymaster w/ Morning Star, Enchanted Shield, HA — 71
Captain w/ Morning Star, HA, Sh — 58
8 Duellists w/ Pistols — 72
5 Light Cav w/ Bows — 75
14 Pikemen w/ Standard — 150
14 Pikemen — 140
10 Dwarves w/ HA, Sh, Crossbows — 140
Cannon — 42.5 (w/ the discount)
There's a fair amount of shooting between the cannon, dwarves, duellists and light cav. The dwarves can shoot but are pretty tough as well in HtH, so they'll cover the flank pretty well, I think. Two relatively big units of pikes will give him something to think about, and the duellists can screen while the LC march block and pick away at the enemy.
What do you all think?
Thanks,
Jeff

I should, but I don't. And I'd rather not proxy, if at all possible. That would be a very good idea, however.
