Ciao, amici!
Here in Brazil is very hard to come by or worse, import Dogs Of War pieces. So I had an idea: Here we have a lot of LOTR players, including myself (who fields dwarfs and gobbos), and once someone mentioned that Isengard was a 'renascence army'.
I thought it over and I agree. Pikes and Crossbows? They are Tileans at heart!!! And cheaper.
So I've been thinking in converting some, both pikeman (who are wearing sallets, just convert it) and crossbowmen into my starting Dogs Of War army. Any thoughts? Did someone tried it before?
I say go for it. you might have to get some 20mm square bases.
Uruks are fairly big models compared to other Lotr models. I think they will do just fine in size comparance, but they are very ugly faced so to say.
Maybe some different heads for them?

About 6 dollars for 20 heads can turn the most ugly uruk into a well trained young soldier

The bases are no problem. Those I can acquire here at very cheap prices.
Humm... I liked the 'oda 'eads'. May go for it.
Try to make full-face-plate helmets, so you won't have to explain, why your Tileans are so ugly

.
The ramshakle-armour can be explainded by a long warfare-tradition or by a norse-heritage.
But most important: We wanna see pics!!
I think its a great idea for the pikemen! The crossbowmen are more of an issue since, appropriatly only the Besiegers wear heavy armour.
I'm not sure about the dimensions but if you used the War of the Ring movement trays and went with the idea of full face helms the models could be used for both game systems if you fancied an isenguard army.

the word is cheep !! and there a good figure to make pike men
and archers
surely a paymaster does not employ a unit because of their looks alone, anyway rugluds armoured orcs are crossbow wielding orcs, so why not just use the ugly guys from the lotr range
LotR Orcs are smaller (25mm Scale) than WHFB Orcs (28mm scale). You could use them but I wouldn't use them in the same army. The Orcs from LotR could be ugly humans.
A friend of mine usues LoTR horses for ponies for his halfling empire army. He just chops off a bit of the legs and you have a pony. Not really uruk-hai stuff, but it might give you some ideas perhaps.
So I'm stealing this very good idea, thanks
http://www.dogsofwaronline.com. Going to get them today. I'll post pics of the scale and how they look in Sadirath's "Mad Militia".
It works in my fluff because I'm putting together a rouge band of misfits and wildmen from across the Warhammer world. The unit all based and trained in Tilea by Sadirath and his officers.
Story and pics to follow soon

Why not I think its a great idea -- I have toyed with it as well. The only problem that I see is that they may not be allowed in official tournament play. Not sure if thats still in effect but for a while LoTR miniatures were not allowed in official GW tournaments. Something to do with License.
Otherwise: its a great idea -- keep them as uruk-hai it does not matter. Thats the beauty of Dogs of War armies -- all models are appropriate.
Not a show off of my painting skills, just an idea of scale when it comes to a Dogs of War army. I went for the Ugly human approach.. Fit's my skill as well

Oh yeah, hasn't been confused with a frying pan....yet

Definately a pike!
But in my honest oppinion, the Uruk is just way too small for WFB. It's obvious he doesn't mesh in with the other humans.
Well in his defense, he is bent over a little, because of my basing. I have decided when I do get another unit of 20+ pikemen, it'll be hard to use both units in the same army, the differences will be even more pronounced....I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. As it stands now it's not a gross absurdity on the table.
