If you dumped the generic Pikemen for Light Cav, Pistol Duellists and more Light Cav, your army would be better.

Model the Light cav as Halfling cavalry on Sheep. Or ponies.

And the Pistol Duellists as Halflings with Handguns.
Over all I would have to say, a good start. The only thing bugging me is the crossbowmen, as you have two halfling units with bows (I'm guess on the normal ones). I would use a unit of duellists or something else, but with you just starting over it is alot easyer to stand and shoot. Let us know how the battles went.
Thanks for the replies everyone!

John: Unfortunately, I have not yet purchased any duellists or light cav. This is sort of an improvised list. I will definitely include them once I have the money(spent it all on halflingsTongue)

Jikoun: Same again, I would much rather have a unit of duellists than crossbows, but it's what I have right now. Plus i think the S4 missile weapons are needed in this list. I will be sure to post how the game(s) go.

On a sidenote, any suggestions for lores for my wizards? I think i will take lore of beasts for the lv.1 for bears anger on Ricco, but any suggestions would be helpful.

Cheers

For a lack of anything better, Fire / Heavens / Death are all good.
For me lore selection often depends on the opponant. For example against daemons and undead i always take lore of light.
I would have one of the wizard use fire (Halfling Grillmaster Wink) if you have an extra halfling model for it
I have a reaper halfling with a rabbit and hat(lore of beasts)Tongue
Looks like a fairly solid list. You could probably do without taking Ricco's in such a small game. Just use another block of generic pikes.

Give your Paymaster the enchanted shield.

With the points you'll have left over from switching to more regular pikes you could also bump up the other wizard to lvl 2.

I think i will do that since I was waiting on Ricco and he didnt arrive todayAngry, so i'll use normal pikes, and bump it up to 2 lv 2s. Wish me luck tomorrow!

Hey all,

Well, i didnt end up playing until thursday, with my friend and his dark elf army. This is my list that I played with:

paymaster: ha, shield.
Hireling wizard: lv2
Hireling wizard: lv2

18 Alcantali Fellowship
19 pikemen: Ha, muxician, standard bearer.
8 duellists: pistols

10 halflings
12 fighting cocks

hot pot

This is a pretty fluffy list, since i wanted to see how a halfling list would work.

My friend had:

Dark elf hero on manticore
sorceress caddy

20 spearmen
10 crossbowmen
5 dark riders?(fast cav)

5 shades

1 reaper bolt thrower

As soon as i saw the manticore, i was pretty worried, with good reason as it happens. We played 2 games, which I lost. The first game, my magic wiped out most of his crossbowmen, and that was about it. the manticore charged the fighting cocks, who were on my left, and they failed their terror check and just got away, right next to my pikes. My 4 remaining duellists(got shot up the turn before) charged the manticore, and KILLED it in 1 combat. This was the highlight of the game for me, and it just went downhill from there. I just got shot to pieces by his repeater crossbows and bolt thrower(which work really well against T3 models, not what i'm used to as i play orcs usually).

The second game was worse, his manticore went through my duellists, halflings, regular pikemen, and Croop( after running from croop, I almost caught him, he rolled 12 and i rolled 11Angry) I only killed around 10 dark elfs the entire game, and my entire army was gone turn 6.

It was a learning experience i guess. I dont feel bad for losing, and I will not let this discourage me from playing Dogs of war, I guess i just have to use different units(no more fluffSad) I think i will drop the regular halflings and hot pot(who did nothing both games) and add more duellists, 2 units of crossbows, a maneater and cannon. I will take a captain, paymaster and scroll caddy, as I really need the LD8.

On a side note, I think that there should be a battle report section for this forum, as it would be fun for everyone to post their recent battles and stuff.

Cheers

Facing a manticore is nasty in small games but it sounds like you almost got him anyway! I'm suprised the halflings didn't have more of an effect since the key to manticores is shooting them, crossbows should be more effective. There is a battle report section. Its called Tales of Conquest and its right below the army lists :-P

Yeah, but the thing about halflings is though they are BS4/5....they are S3. So I was sitting there trying to hurt the 4 Wound T5 manticore and its rider who had a 1+ armour save, and it didnt work. Only in CC did my halflings really shine, running down the master in the first game and making him and the manticore break the second.Tongue

DOH! I guess i should be more observant in future. How often do people here play with their Dogs of war?

Cheers

Peyton
I would play about 3 more games and/or at least drop the hot pot and get a cannon first. With any army it takes a few games before you the hang of it, even more when dealing with fluff army.

Well Peyton, on a side note to your side note, there IS a forum for Battle Reports called Tales of Conquest and even mentions that it is the forum for battle reports in the subtitle. You can find it here: http://dogsofwaronline.com/forum/forumdi...php?fid=20

which if you had bothered to look is actually located right below this forum.

Hope that helps.
Maeglin:"There is a battle report section. Its called Tales of Conquest and its right below the army lists :-P"

Me:"DOH! I guess i should be more observant in future."

I guess I'm not the only one who is unobservant Tongue
I guess you're not.
So for my next battle(whenever that happens) I am thinking of bringing this for 1250:

Captain: Brace of Pistols, Heavy armour, shield. 70

Paymaster: Brace of pistols, Heavy armour, shield. 75

Hireling wizard: lv.1, 2 dispell scrolls. 110

19 Pikemen: Heavy armour, Musician, Standard Bearer. 229

19 Pikemen: Heavy armour, Musician, Standard Bearer. 229

10 crossbowmen: 80

10 Crossbowmen: 80

9 Duellists: Pistols. 81

10 Fighting Cocks: 118

Maneater: Brace of handguns, Heavy armour. 90

Cannon: 85

Not so many halflings any moreUndecided, but hopefully a little more competetive(i.e. not a doormatTongue)

Cheers

It's a little defensive for my liking but you've got the firepower to back it up, so against most armies it shouldn't be a huge problem. Just watch out for armies with multiple fast cav and flyers and shoot down those threats first.

Just as a precaution drop a duelist and replace the paymaster's shield with an enchanted one. Plus if a great weapon for the ogre is 4pts (i don't know, I've not got the ogre kingdoms book anymoreSad) buy him one and that should bring you nicely too 1250pts.
Hope you have better luck with your next battle!

Halfling Grillmaster: cook the rabbit. Tongue

Happy Hunting on your next battle.
Perhaps find a way to give the PM the enchanted shield.
The Enchaned Shield is always a good thing to put on a hero you want to try and help keep alive. Now I can't remember, does he still get handweapon/shield bonus in combat.
