Welcome to the 2nd Golden Pike competition of Dogs of War Online, the premiere site for all Dogs of War players!

We had a pretty good response for our first Golden Pike painting contest, but lets make this one even better. So with that in mind lets get this rolling. The time frame is a bit shorter then usual, but you should have been working on this before the site crash anyways! Wink

Subject Matter
Create a Paymaster, and a retinue of up to 4 bodyguards. The bodyguards are optional.

So what do we mean by this?
Create a paymaster and his retinue if you wish.

A paymaster is vital to every army, thus every army has to have one. whether on foot or mounted this is up to you, in short wow us, the community and the internet as a whole.

Basing
- If mounted the paymaster may be on a 40mm base for the paychest, 25x50mm bases for the horses (if any)
- Bodyguards may either be on 20mm if on foot or 25x50mm bases if mounted.

Particulars, Deadline? and how to enter
Due Date: 11:59 PM August 31st, 2009 EST (Eastern Standard Timezone)

Send all entries to the Goldenpike account (a special user that all Staff have access to). Again, no later then 11:59 PM August, 31st 2009 (Eastern Standard Timezone). Entries will not be accepted after that date and time regardless of how cool your submission is. (Around 6 1/2 weeks to complete your entry).

If for some reason you are having trouble with your submission, contact one of the Staff. in order to avoid problems. I "highly advise" that entrants do not wait until the very last minute to submit their entries...

Next, for tips on how to take great photos look here:

Photographing on a white background works wonders and makes my job easier too Smile

If you win:
- Rightly take your place in the future Golden Pike Hall of Fame, where your glory will be remembered for years to come.*
- Receive the Golden Pike medal for your online persona *
- Everyone who enters gets a number of gold ducats equal to the number of entries. If 50 people enter we award 50 gold ducats to each person who entered.*

* bear in mind these will be re-added as we bring the forum back to life. Also note that unless there are ten or more entrants only the gold medal will be awarded.

Ggood luck everyone, make us (the Staff) proud.
I see the due date is 29th of June.

Since most of us don't have use of a TARDIS (or any other time machine) you may want to rethink the date. Big Grin
"These aren't the droids you are looking for..."
Sneaky Willmark. Nice edit.
Is it possible to rethink the inclusion of Bodyguard, perhaps making it optional.
A month and a half isn't exactly much time to get 5 figures done from potential scratch to full paint job (Considering stuff like other activities and duties).
Maybe it's just me being selfish though and wanting to enter (Because I don't really intend to make Paymaster Bodyguard anytime soon).
But yeah, that is my suggestion...
Good job Willmark for getting all this stuff up and running tonight!

???Wrong forum???

PS: Do we get our money from contest no.1 back?
Someone- yep sorry it wasn't clear I added in that it's opitional.

Tribun- nope if I get time it will be reloaded on Saturday.
Great to have another painting comp up so quick
I know you must be rushed off your feet ATM with the reboot and stuff so this is really
Appreciated. I'll be entering and I bought some new models for this specifically. It's a great excuse to do some work on my orc Dogs of War I'm working on the rules for.
Paymaster and four body guards on the way.
One thing that should be reiterated --- the quality of your pictures for GP contests affects your chances significantly. If the voters can't make out the details on your mini you're unlikely to do well (regardless of the actual quality of the model). Take Willmark's 'taking better pictures' suggestions to heart people.
i will wow you ball with my insane schemes...muhahahahahahaha

You'll wow my what now? Big Grin

I've decided to have a go too and have started work. Good news so far, no cut fingers! Yet....Rolleyes
do we have to model a paychest?
i assume if we do then it would looks better but i thought that the key acts as a banner for the army

and i see the date is now the last day of august
I think the Paychest was mandatory. You might want to PM Willmark.

I don't think it's mandatory. Just there are guidelines for those who want to make a Paychest but don't want to be restricted to a 20mm base or a 25x50mm base. The subject matter is the Paymaster himself, and potential bodyguard if you wish.
A paymaster without a chest? I look forward to seeing an an entry for a paymaster with no chest... In other words what will distinguish him as a paymaster when the chest is a universal sign of loot for Dogs of War.? o_O
So he can't be carrying a bag of gold or have it in a big fanny pack? Big Grin
oh well at least now i have another month to create a pay chest thing
but now i need to re model my bases for my paymaster
and here was me thinking that my bag o' loot would be good enough

quick technicallity question
im doing an orc henchman unit to promote my idea of an orcy dogs of war that ill be writing up at some point
do i still need to do them on the 20mm bases or can i do them on 25mm as befitting of an orc?
Personally I think they should be on the 20mm bases, but getting Orcs on those small bases could be tough.

You should be fine with doing them on 25mm bases.

Really? Because mine definately doesn't have one. I thought the key was more iconic for the Paymaster than the chest. Considering his description in the Chronicles is
Quote:The Paymaster is the man responsible for the cash
which will be used to pay the army. He always carries with him
the keys of the pay chest and that makes him at least as important
as the General in the eyes of the mercenaries.
I'd also say it's hard to fit a paychest onto the proper Paymaster base (20x20mm for unmounted) without it looking extremely crowded.
Then I look forward to your entry.
Is base size really that important? If anyone wants to do a diorama for instance, I think they should be allowed to do so. Especially with the Paymaster that is either on foot or mounted, or standing on the paychest, or riding a paycart, bodyguards guarding the chest or standing next to it? There are a lot of options to make a paymaster, and limiting him to a special base size takes away some of that imo. I'm not even sure my Paymaster would be allowed in this case, since I have the guards on the same base as the chest, and the Paymaster separate.
Bases sizes are to prevent dioramas, right now. Future Golden Pikes will explore many ideas so don't worry we will have opportunities in the future to try different stuff.
rejoined in time for the comp, I already have a begin for my paymaster, so I'll join this one again Big Grin
