Hey all,

I just recently started my Dogs of War army, and am planning on doing an army painted as a mercenary Averland army with lots of halflings, as Averland has no ruler, many nobles are trying to take control of the province, and would not be averse to hiring mercenaries. Averland also has strong ties to the Moot, and as such it only seems right that there be lots of halflings in this army as well.

So far I have a unit of pikemen(including unit filler ogre with pike, inspired by Comrade Igor and Sir shivsalot from warseer), a unit of crossbowmen, and I should be recieving some Fighting cocks and Republican Guard any day now.

So today I thought I would post about the only thing I have painted so far, a test model for the pikemen. Please tel me what you think of him.

Cheers

Peyton

Painting looks great, I like the highlighting.
He looks good, I can't wait until you get the Halflings.
Looks great. I think the current State Troops box makes great looking mercenary pikemen (It's just more difficult due to the spear poses). Just look so much rougher compared to the old 6th edition State Troops.
Your model looks great, can't wait to see a full unit of them Smile
nicely done.
Are they kill markings on the pike haft? If so, very cool!
Looking good!!!
Looks great!
So where's the Halflings to this Averlander Army? Big Grin
Hey all,

WoW! lots of comments so fast! Thanks alot for all the compliments.

Bilbo: I can't wait eitherHuh

Someone: Yeah, they are a pain to put together, but they look great when finished, and you can adjust the poses easily. I'll try to finish the unit in the next week or two. I don't have too much time to paint, working on a farm = no time during the dayDodgy

Maeglin: Yes they are, pretty impressive for a pikeman.Cool

Jikoun:Hopefully in the mailTongue, bought them off ebay saturday. I am going to get a couple sets of the fighting cocks so I can have a unit of them and a unit of "regular" halflings. I wish halflings werent 0-1Sad

I will have pics of the first 5 guys up either tomorrow or the day after.

Cheers

Hello everyone,

None of my stuff has arrived yetHuh, but I guess it is silly of me to expect it to take anything less than a week to get anywhere in the US.

Anyway, I have some PIP pictures of 4 more pikemen for the unit. I am not sure what else to do for the banner, any ideas? My freehand skillz are not so great, but whatever. any sugestions would be helpful.

Cheers

PS: It's only when you're taking pictures of the models that you realize your mistakesUndecided. THe back of the piker's pants look terrible, i'll have to fix them up.
Looks good.
For a banner design, try looking in the Uniforms and Heraldry of the Empire book for inspiration (even if you don't own it, just go into GW and flip through it if you can). Even if you're not good at freehand, you could look at some of the more simpler shield designs to get an idea.
Since you've done a half black half yellow banner, it rules out the sun symbol that goes along with Averland a little. You could try the Victory or Death with the skull banner - or maybe just an Imperial cross in red.
I would hold on doing the banners last, that way you can link the army together as a whole. but somebody2040 does have a good idea for the time beening with the book for ideas.

as for the free hand, either work on it using a other banner or paper to get it down. also might want to look at etched work or transfer sheets or just leave it is (exp. Andy Hall's Empire Army) if it is good enough for the pros its good enough for us.

Happy Hunting
Impressive!
Personally om most of mine I printed the banners on paper and cut off the plastic banners. My Empire one had an image of a Hippogriff on it.
YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe he's excited because their cooking skills are legendary.
OR....I am excited because they are HALFLINGS!!!! That's it. That's the only reason i'm excited. Halflings rock. Next up should be 10 Lumpin Croops Fightong cocks and a Hot PotSmile

Well im the same way when it comes to slayer and pirate slayers!!
What about a Halfling Slayer Player?
Can't wait to see you get those Halflings painted up!
Nothing brings a smile to a game of Warhammer as quickly as putting Lumpin Croops and a Hot Pot in the game.
Oh I disagree Bilbo, I can think of one thing. Lumpin Croop, a unit of "regular halflings" and TWO hot pots! (This will be in my 2000+ list)Tongue

I have around 25 halflings right now, and a hot pot that came in the mail. Still waiting on Ricco's rep. GuardHuh. But then again, it's only been two weeksRolleyes

I finished 5 of Croop's lads, and will post pics tomorrow. Must.....Find......Camera!

Cheers
