I'm thinking of adding a giant or two to my army but i'm wondering if i should take the Giants of Albion instead.
So which do you prefer? The stubborn ld10 of the Dogs of War or the better attacks plus Hengis of the RoR?
One Giant isn't good unless you're taking Asarnil for a 2nd Monster.

Otherwise, all else being equal, Giants of Albion beat 2 Giants because you get back an extra Wizard who adds a Dispel Die along with Bear's Anger.
Its the stubborn that pulls me towards the Dogs of War combined with the paymaster nearby i thought it'd make a great flank guard.
However i've never used a giant and it may be i'm just after a surrogate treeman Big Grin
Two regular giants easily beat the Giants of Albion. Either way you're giving up both Rares for them. The Dogs of War giants have better stats and are a good chunk of points cheaper than the GoA. Adding Hengus into the equation... he's hardly going to be a game breaker.
One giant is good as well I think. I use one for Orcs & gobbos and I refer to him as the large pincushion magnet of misslefire.

It distracts the normal misslefire for about 1 or 2 turns in the games that I play so I would just go with 1 giant and another rare choice (cannon perhaps)
The O&G Giants have better stats? How so?

O&G Giants Y&B only 1/6 of the time.

GoA auto-win by Y&B 1-3 against other large targets, and 1-2 against small. Plus, GoA treat Ogres as small.

Really? Huh That's new to me. Didn't know that
Yeah, Giants of Albion only treat "other large targets" (i.e. Dragons and Hydras), everything else is small. As Ogres aren't large targets (+1 to be shot at), then they're small stuff.

But the greater number of Y&B results is huge. Auto-winning is what you really need in most cases, especially if they've got static CR or you get chargedby Cav.
Yeah, stats, as in WS BS S T and others? Idea
Apart from the difference in special rules, the Dogs of War have one extra wound and Ld10.

I think i'm leaning further to the Dogs of War for flexibility in my rare choices. Plus i already have a high elf dragon kit thats unassembled which could easily become the dragonlord Big Grin

EDIT: oh and O&G giants are identical to Dogs of War
Good choice there, the ld10 stubborn is nice as well as the 40 or so points you save.
The reason O&G Giants are Ld10 is because they lose combat a lot more...
Uhuh...
Hengus is also a way to get an extra dispel die and a little casting power if you don't want to/can't invest in another wizard since he doesn't take up a vital character slot.
But on the flipside, he can't join a unit so you have to keep him fairly well protected on his ownsome.
Since getting the GoA models isn't easy I guess people who want them are in the same boat as those who want an Asarnil model. Buy two giants (and a wizard) and paint them appropriately.

I've observed that the biggest problem with Dogs of War is that too many of their interesting units count as rare choices.

Gotrek and Felix*
Witch Hunters* (Bilbo the updated rules for them are in the 2002 annual. 350 points but Wilhelm is a real Warrior Priest)
Bronzino's Galloper Guns*
Giants of Albion
Tichi Huichi's Cold One Riders*
Birdmen of Catrazza*
Asarnil the Dragonlord
Malakai Makaisson's Goblin Hewer

Truthsayer*
Dark Emissary*
Fenbeasts

Cannon*
Giant
Halfling Hot Pot*

Since I have the model's I'll probably use the Galloper Guns, but I also have the other models marked with an asterisk. I have to sacrifice firepower for character (or vice versa).
I'm OK with the Giant, Giants of Albion and Deathfang taking Rare slots. These are Monsters and deserve to take a Rare slot per Monster.

The Albion Characters and Beasts are also OK taking 1 Hero + 1 Rare slot because they are Wizard Lord-level Mages. Sort of.

Gotrek and Felix should just take 2 Hero Slots.

Witch Hunters should just be a Hero per model.

The Artillery is something of a mess, as the Hot Pot and Light Cannon aren't really worth a Rare - as Specials, they'd be fine. The Hewer, however is aces, but should only cost a Rare, not a Rare and a Hero - same with the Galloper Guns.

The Skink ROR is merely an upgrade for Core Light Cav, so a Special, at best. Similarly with the Birdmen as an upgrade for the Light Cav bowmen, and another Special ROR
