Hey guys, i'm a total newbie to your forums here but i had a question that i was hoping you all could answer for me...

i browsed through the forums a bit, but couldn't find the answer (and my apologies if it has in fact, come up previously and i just missed it)... Nor was it mentioned in the Direwolf FAQ...

Can Dwarfs and Orcs (say Long Drong's Slayer Pirates and Ruglund's Armored Orcs specifically) or any other combination of units that have rules that say they dislike other races... be included in the same Dogs of War army?

Army Builder doesn't throw an error when putting Dwarfs and Greenskins, or Manflayers and Arsanil together in the same list... but AB can frequently be... mistaken.

I realize that thematically the idea of a bunch of Dwarf Crossbowmen marching alongside Orcs or Hobgoblins doesn't make a whole lot of sense... but when it comes to paying the mercs, it's plausible that even the miserly Dwarfs would put aside their racial hatreds when it comes to a steady paycheck.

I've considered just saying that anyone with an actual "rule" (like Hatred) wouldn't stand for being in the same army... allowing for combinations like the Manflayers and Dwarfs (despite the fact that Manflayers can't be in a Dwarf army, nor Dwarfs in a Dark Elf force)...

but i was curious what the general consensus was for things like this, since there doesn't seem to be an actual rule saying that Regiments of Renown who would normally not work with entire armies of certain races, WOULDN'T work with individual other Regiments of Renown (or Dogs of War) belonging to those races.

what do you all think?
Even though it might be considered unfluffy, it is by no means illegal rules-wise. If there isn't anything in the rules that says you can't have them in the same army, then you can, as simple as that.
Why unfluffy?

Have a look at the Cover of the old Dogs of War AB...there you can see Dwarfs, Ogres, Human and Greenskins fighting alongside...Mercenaries are Outlaws and fight for Gold, so even at the side of old enemies!
Hey, I only said "might" Wink
Heh, when you are a sellsword, you barelly notice who you're fighting for! Imagine who you're fighting with!

To get uneasy in such situations is totally unprofessional!!
Shame on those dwarves for forgeting their ancestorial hatred of the green skin!

If you do mix them I think the dwarven crossbow's should take a leadership test or have to shoot the green skins in the back!Angel
Besides, you can always use conversions and 'counts as' to make some of these matches look a bit better on the tabletop.
I personally can't wait to start using the Goblin Hewer and Oglah Khan in the same army list. Luckily it's not a Hobgoblin Hewer, but that still has to sting a little.

I hope somewhere in 8th edition it clears up the "slot" issue. In terms of the Hewer.
I really want them to sort out the slot issue as I have always liked Arsarnil and Lorenzo.
As far as the ‘takes an extra slot’ goes. Just talk with your local gaming group. We’ve been playing 8th ed since the store got its copy of the book. The core group of guys I game with are pretty great, if a rule isn’t clarified we talk it out. So for stuff like say, Goblin fanatics, the rule says :its removed if it touching a terrain feature. We thought that was a little silly, given that terrian is everywhere is 8th, so we changed it to the fantatic takes a dangerous terrain test for everything but buildings (which destroy it).
For things like slots, (ie my goblin hewer) we decided to simply stick that one in the rare slot percentages, since he can’t really leave the warmachine – ever.
Yeah, if something takes slot X AND slot Y, it is reasonable in this edition to have it come from slot X only.

As for the fanatic only dying 1/6 of the time while spinning through a forest or around a rocky outcropping.... Well, that's your own decision.
Fanatics still die on doubles, and most people would rather shoot them to death anyway! But if course if the faq add a little more clarifcation to it...

In 7th ed unless a hill was difficult terrain we played it as 'open ground' for the purpose of fanatics
