Hello all. i've been putting together a couple of different factions for my dogs and one group that i'm having trouble with is supposed to be thematically and fluff wise a thieves guild. anyone know how to go about that? i was looking for around 750 pts worth, with a captain that (fluffily) uses stealth magic, smoke bombs, etc to vanish and avoid attacks in combat, kinda like Sniktch.
so far, all i can think of is duelists with extra weapons or shields representing leather armor, with throwing knives of course. the guild would need some hard muscle, so a couple of ogres thrown in the mix wouldnt hurt. any other ideas?
For thieves? Light Cavalry. I mean honestly, they are going to hop on horses at some point, and the line between thief and raider is very thin. Perhaps a unit or two with bows?
A small unit of Crossbows wouldn't be out of the question either. Never hurts to have a few men backing you up, ready to silence sentries at range, while you and your band climb up the side of a fortified building.
Is this going to be a standalone force, or just one part of the army? Because a Paymaster/Guildmaster would make sense, surrounded by 'loyal' and well paid henchmen (Paymasters Guard), or a group of Dwarven traders, friendly to the group who fence the valuable they steal, perhaps a similiar group to the Crossbowmen above?
Now I've got one more for you, what about a Giant? I know, it seems very out of place at first, but if you REALLY need to take something from someone, not many people can stop a giant! No need to sneak into a mansion or climb up the side of a tower if a giant can just walk up, pick the roof off, reach in and take it!
How about Halflings? The old Halfling Rouge stereotype?
all well placed suggestions. i approve.
the light cav part struck me right after i posted, but i was too busy to fix it.
can we take giants?
halflings. i like.
and this will be both. for smaller scale games, i'll be running each faction of my main army as an individual, and then they'll all group up to make the megazord of my Dogs of War army.
Yes we can take giants. Just ask bilbo.
Sounds good, cant wait to see some minis.
I would have thought Long Drong's Pirate Slayers would be happy to help out with a bit o' plundering!
If you want a bit of fluff, thieves in the Empire do not have a guild, but must provide a quota of their ill-gotten gains to the local 'Low-King', a sort of Godfather figure, who also runs whorehouses, many alehouses, gambling dens, baiting pits and pit-fighting arenas etc. in a particular area of a city. He funds major undertakings and fences stolen property.
He is a secretive person, rarely known by his own name, and is often believed to be more powerful than most guildmasters.
The god of thieves is Ranald, a minor god.
Perhaps 'UnderKing'? Do not confound with the King Of Worms[Mannimarco]!
oh, sweet! thanks for the fluff.
